Call to Arms: Nations Fall. My second novel is due for release August 11. My experience with this novel has been different from the first. It took only 2 weeks for the publisher to read it and decide they wanted to publish it. But then they gave it a release date that was even further from my contract signing than the first one. They seem more excited about it too. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the later release has to due with it being a more favorable date – like in preparation for the start of the school year.
I’ve seen an initial cover for Call to Arms: Nations Fall and I can tell you that it is even better than the one for my first book (which was great by the way). Knowing what I know now about marketing you can expect an action-packed August and September from me. That is, if you consider my standing around in book stores and signing books to be action-packed in any way. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to tell people that I started World War III in my latest novel.
Nine Months With Angels. I’m not sure why, but I wrote a play. A musical no less. I’ve even taken a stab at writing the lyrics for the songs in the play. Fortunately, I have the presence of mind to bring in someone who knows music and given them permission to use as much, or as little, of my lyrics as they want. I’m very excited to be working with a talented young lady on this project. Take a listen to Celine Mireille Durney’s song 730 Days to get an idea of just how talented she is.
That’s really only half the news about the play. My friend Cory Ellsworth, writer and producer of the play 1856, convinced me that if I ever wanted to see Nine Months With Angels on the stage that I needed to put on the show myself. Well, not me up on stage, but real actors who can sing. Anyway, that is what I’m going to do. I haven’t selected a time for the production yet, but watch my blog for updates on when you can expect to come out and see the play.
The Land of the Battlementals. Of all my projects, this is the one I am most excited about right now. This is a middle-grade book for boys. It has action, it has interesting creatures, it has comedy, and I’m hoping this will be my big break-out story. I have agent pitches in February and plan to really sell this concept. What concept you ask? Here’s the pitch (that I will be spending a lot of time polishing before the conference).
“Between Earth and the Elemental Plane, there exists a realm where elemental creatures battle for dominance in the universe. Six children must travel this land and find a way to bring the elemental forces back into balance before all the realms are ripped apart.”
And to give you a taste of what that is all about I asked my son Patrick to draw a picture of a Noggart. The noggarts are just one of many of the battlemental creatures that I dreamt up for the story. Enjoy.
